The Ontario Chamber of Commerce represents 60,000 members through 160 independent chambers of commerce and boards of trade throughout the province. The OCC has worked on behalf of business since 1911. The Guelph Chamber of Commerce is a founding member of both the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Combined, Canada's Chamber network is in all electoral districts in all areas of Canada representing over 175,000 businesses of all types and sizes.
The Guelph Chamber of Commerce has participated with the Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade throughout the Ontario Chamber of Commerce network, identifying key provincial policy issues in the following areas relating to business and our communities:
- Competitive Tax and Regulatory Regime
- Transitioning to the New Economy
- Skilled Workforce: Education, Training, Accreditation
- Regional Economic Development
- Infrastructure Planning and Funding: Energy, Transportation, Transit
- Sector Specific Issues: Agriculture
- Health Care Sustainability
Our provincial policy recommendations follow questions we are posing to our local candidates in these areas. Detailed background can be found at http://occ.on.ca/business-advocacy/, developed by local Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade by local business people.
In Guelph, we are planning for a discussion forum with our local MPP candidates to be held September 13th at the Cutten Fields at 7pm with more details to follow. Next Wednesday our Advocacy Committee will be discussing the "big questions" in these areas with candidate's answers to be posted on our website. In the meantime, please send in your comments or concerns to have your voice heard in our local discussions: post here or email sean@guelphchamber.com.
