Yesterday Minister Glen Murray was in Guelph to announce $1.2m in funding from the Ontario government's Innovation Demonstration Fund for Biorem to install locally developed technology at Polycon, a local division of Magna International producing bumpers as well as components for home products. This system for removing VOC's from industrial pollution is a biology based remediation system developed by Biorem, and the installation at Polycon will be used to demonstrate clean air technology to other VOC producers. Polycon is a leading autoparts manufacturer employing over 1,200 people in Guelph, and Biorem is hoping this technology will eventually create 150 more jobs locally for their business when similar applications are identified. Bill Mullin from Innovation Guelph has been working on projects with Biorem in the Cleantech space and will help to make innovators aware of this technology in his role as Entrepreneur In Residence. David Gray, General Manager of Polycon sits on the Guelph Chamber of Commerce Industrial Committee as well as Innovation Guelph's Advisory Council. Innovation Guelph is funded by the Ministry of Research and Innovation as a part of the Ontario Network of Excellence. Full press release is here, including photos of yesterday's event. Guelph MPP Liz Sandals hopes to coordinate more announcements for Innovation Demonstrations locally.
