Happy Volunteer Week!
About 100 volunteers support 8 staff to implement the goals of the Guelph Chamber of Commerce. Volunteer groups include:
Board of Directors: what strategy do we have for supporting business in Guelph. How do we help the community with Advocacy, Connections, and Education.
Program Committee (Education): what topics does business want to hear about. who are the experts in the city. 40 events per year we talk about every week. Next BA5 at Meadovale Nursery.
Membership Services (Connections): who are the new members, what cost savings benefits can we offer. New group benefits program from Cooperators and Homewood.
Ambassadors (Connections): welcome people to events, introduce newcomers to others through conversations
Technology Committee (Connections): how do we connect technology businesses to the other businesses. Technology Conference in January
Industrial Committee (Education): what are best practices in manufacturing that can be shared between businesses. 11 Blackbelts graduated, energy savings programs, government grants programs.
Workplace Development (Education): how do we continue to improve the Guelph workforce. Essential Skills program between Linamar and Conestoga, Career Toolbox.
Advocacy Committee (Advocacy): what topics do we want to discuss with government. What policies need changing.
At the upcoming debate between four parties next Tuesday, topics come from Board of Directors and Advocacy, as well as from membership in general and audience who is at Cutten Fields from 7 to 9pm. Volunteers will take questions from floor and sort them into categories.
