The Guelph Chamber of Commerce and Rogers TV are hosting a Federal Election 2011 candidates meeting on Tuesday April 19, 2011 at Cutten Fields, 190 College Avenue East, Guelph from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The invited candidates include Marty Burke (Conservative Party), John Lawson (Green Party), Bobbi Stewart (New Democratic Party) and Frank Valeriote (Liberal Party) and the discussion will be moderated by Lloyd Longfield. The audience is invited to submit questions in written form during the discussion. The Guelph Chamber policy is to invite parties with 8% or higher of the popular vote, with 2008 results below. Six other parties ran in 2008, with less than 1% popular vote total combined between them. The purpose of this limit is to ensure as wide as possible a range of questions are covered in the course of the evening.
The Guelph Chamber of Commerce represents over 840 businesses. It’s important that residents in the Guelph Riding understand where the candidates stand on matters that are important to the business community. There are many issues that have an impact on the growth of business and we all share a responsibility to make sure our elected representatives reflect those needs. Chambers of Commerce do not endorse any candidates, but play the role of encouraging voter awareness and participation.
The Guelph Chamber of Commerce is seeking input from our members on topics of interest to them. Our online suvey can be found here. Candidates have also been given this preliminary list for their consideration.
